Milena Cruz-Andrew

Milena is on the verge of completing the first year of her Law Degree with The Open University Law School.

“I chose to study Law because I believe strongly in helping people and, most importantly, I believe in justice. I have always been passionate about the legal system. I chose this career path after finding faith in myself that I would complete it. I’d previously studied Journalism but it didn’t interest me the way Law has.

“As mother to a three-year-old little boy who is dependent on me, and with another little one on the way, I chose to study part-time. It has enabled me to study and look after my family at the same time.

“I have found the first year to be very enjoyable. It has confirmed to me that my passion for Law is strong, and that I’ve chosen the right career path. It hasn’t been so tough that I couldn’t cope, but it’s been challenging enough that it’s kept me motivated and wanting more.

“My tutor has been absolutely amazing too, and the support from the OU has been outstanding.

“I perhaps wasn’t aware of the challenges that legal essay writing can bring. So I’ve been focusing on this over the summer, ready for the second year.

“My degree will help me in the legal industry, and will lead me to relevant jobs and further education in the future.”
