The project brings together a multidisciplinary team from law, Francine Ryan and Liz Hardie and from STEM, Daniel Gooch, Mike Richards and Kevin Waugh to co-produce research informed resources that will enhance knowledge, awareness, confidence of, and use of GenAI for understanding legal processes and accessing legal information. It educates and empowers the public, legal advice organisations, small and medium law firms, students, and academics by explaining GenAI, its application, implications, and ethical use in legal contexts. It empowers learners through the provision of open access and engaging online courses (including interactive and audio-visual materials, checklists, and case studies) that provide ethical and responsible knowledge of, and skills to use GenAI.
The Open University is working in partnership with Professor Kim Barker at the University of Lincoln and Citizens Advice, a national organisation who support the public with legal information and guidance in person and via telephone, and online support on this project.
