Liz has tutored for the Open University Law School since 2006, teaching a range of different modules at levels 1, 2 and 3. She currently tutors on W230 Family Law and W360 Justice in Action. When she started tutoring for the Open University, she was a practicing solicitor specialising in childcare and adoption proceedings for a local authority. She has previously worked as an employment solicitor and a family solicitor both in private practice (a large regional high street firm) and for local authorities.
In 2010 Liz joined the Open University as a Student Experience Manager and then a senior lecturer in law and was the Law School Teaching Director between 2020 and 2023. She has been part of the Open Justice centre since 2017 where she has led a number of pro bono projects, including the policy clinic, law reform clinic and mediation clinic. She still has a practicing certificate and supervises students in the online law clinic, particularly in family law and employment cases.
Liz has carried out research and scholarship in the pedagogy of teaching, particularly teaching online. Her current research includes work on clinical legal education and policy clinics, generative AI and improving student success by focusing on qualification support online. She currently co- leads the Law School Belonging Project and the Law School Futures of Legal Education cluster.
