Just because you’ve been doing something for a long time, doesn’t mean it has to be your future. With the OU, you can take charge of your destiny. It’s never too late to make a change.

Bachelor of Laws (Honours) (LLB)

The most popular qualification of its kind in the UK. It develops skills of legal analysis and the legal awareness needed to understand and apply the law. The degree offers the flexibility to tailor your study according to your study and career aspirations, to gain either:
  • an academic law degree
  • a degree that includes the Foundations of Legal Knowledge to become a barrister in England and Wales or a solicitor or barrister in Northern Ireland, or
  • a degree that supports those who want to take the first assessment, SQE1, in the Solicitors Qualifying Examination, which is necessary to enter the profession in England and Wales.

Bachelor of Laws (Honours) (graduate entry)

If you already have a degree, this route to the LLB enables you to enter the programme at Stage 2, reducing the total time you need to study.

From pubs and clubs to a legal career … Sarah Tutssel-Buse is a busy mum of two and is registered deaf, but she hasn’t let that stop her from taking steps to make her dreams of helping people for a living come true.

What I like about teaching at the Open University, is that it is impactful education, making a real difference to student lives.

Harry’s first-class honours BSc Open Degree has paved the way to fulfilling his dreams of becoming a solicitor.

Laura Platts

The best aspect of tutoring at the Open University is supporting my students. I really enjoy supporting all of my students and assisting each individual to succeed in their studies.

With two small children and a job working as a director at a Big 4 accountancy practice, the OU offered me the best opportunity to balance competing demands.

My advice to students would be to focus on what you want to achieve with your degree and work hard to fulfil your potential.

On the theme of belonging, I have been involved in evaluating a peer mentoring project aimed at reducing isolation for Level 1 students.
