Professional biography

Ben Trupia-Melluish joined the Open University in July 2017 as a Lecturer and Student Experience Manager in the Business School. Ben was promoted to Senior Lecturer, Business and Management and now holds the office of Head of Student Experience in the Law School. Ben has previously been the Module Team Chair of the second stage of the CMDA qualification: Developing effective work relationships.  

Ben is recognised as a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, holds an MBA, PGCE and BA (Hons) International Business Management. Ben is also a Chartered Manager Fellow recognised by the Chartered Management Institute. Ben has recently been recognised by the Charted Association of Business Schools as a Certified Management and Business Educator. 

Research interests

Ben's current research interests centre on the theme of links between how students learn and what motivates students to continue and progress within their chosen study paths, in particular the role module design and interactivities have in this space. Ben's scholarship is positively influencing pedagogy across the Open University and HE sector.

Teaching interests

Ben is a Senior Lecturer in the Business School and currently is an AL on a marketing module: Marketing in Action. Ben has previously delivered other modules including B100, BXY130, BXY230 and BXY330. Ben also has experience working on MOOCs and Microcredentials through the FutureLearn platform in the areas of: leading a team, customer engagement, modern empowerment in the workplace and marketing principles and practice. Ben is also a Learning Advisor on a variety of short-courses covering the following areas: Creating a successful and sustainable business, Innovation for digital transformation and Business design for the digital world.

Ben is an APPLAUD mentor, mentoring colleagues for FHEA and SFHEA of the Higher Education Academy. Ben is also a certificated External Examiner recognised by the Higher Education Academy and a member of the External Examiners' Community of Practice.
