Two Law School students, Charlotte Eker and Thomas Morris, claimed victory for The Open University in a hotly-contested national mooting competition final. The Law School notched up its third consecutive final, normally held in the historic surroundings of the Inns of Court, in the Oxford University Press (OUP) and The Inns of Court College of Advocacy (ICCA) competition.
Virtual mooting was no barrier to quality as all four teams embraced the new format for 2021 due to the pandemic restrictions with Lady Justice Carr DBE presiding over the final. The other finalists were from Nottingham Trent University; from Birkbeck, University of London; and Queen’s University Belfast.
The OU’s successful students will receive a £1,500 cash prize, a trophy apiece, and the opportunity to marshal an Old Bailey judge and enjoy lunch at the Inns of Court when restrictions ease.
That was a fantastic performance all round, you are all clearly budding advocates and thoroughly deserve your places in this competition final. I look forward to seeing you all before me in court in the not-too-distant future!
