Alexander Lawson

I have been teaching at the OU since 2018, mainly focusing on the law of the European Union and Law, Society and Culture modules, amongst some other projects.

I hold bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Durham University and my professional focus is on International Law. My recent research is on the threat or use of nuclear weapons.

I have teaching experience at far too many institutions to mention and also worked as a quality assurance consultant for 5 years at another UK university. This is more boring than it sounds.

In addition to my Associate Lecture position at the OU, I hold a lectureship position at the University of Lincoln and am an Assistant Professor at Ziauddin University in Karachi, Pakistan. I also work for several NGOs in Pakistan and provide legal advice to the Pakistan Military.  I thus divide my time between Pakistan and the UK.

I enjoy the diverse nature of students we see at the OU and their willingness to engage and be funny even when it’s 7.30pm on a rainy January evening. My Mother is Ukrainian and she achieved her undergraduate degree as an adult, from the Open University. It sits proudly on the wall of my parents’ house.
