Caring while studying can be challenging at the best of times and during Covid, student carers have been dealing with even more than usual. Some OU students may be new to caring due to Covid. This Carers Rights Day, 26 November, The Open University wants to recognise the tremendous work that carers do and showcase some of the support that’s available for our students.

The event is for anyone who cares, unpaid, for a friend or family member who due to illness, disability, a mental health problem or an addiction cannot cope without their support.

There will be a live event 13.30 - 14.30 on Student Hub Live that will respond to questions put forward by students to their panel of academics, advisors and student reps. Student Hub Live will also be launching their new Student Carer Policy and letting you know about new initiatives to support carers. There will be an opportunity to share your experiences of caring during lockdown and chat to other student carers.

Four hundred tickets (with a limit of one per person) are available on a ‘first come, first served’ basis through Eventbrite. Subscribe at Student Hub Live if you would like to be notified about regisration and upcoming events.

Important notice: This session is very tightly structured, starting promptly and finishing on time, with a strict programme of presentations and group activities. Please log in 15 minutes before the start, so that you can test your equipment and familiarise yourself with the online room.
