Susan Lilley

I currently teach Public Law, Criminal Law and Evidence Law.

I am both a qualified linguist and a solicitor. I have experience as a prosecutor and a regulatory lawyer. I trained within the Government Legal Service and on qualification I worked as a prosecutor for what was the Revenue and Customs Prosecutions Office prior to its amalgamation with the Crown Prosecution Service. On leaving my role as I prosecutor I spent time working on a project encompassing both my law and language skills. This was funded by the Directorate General for Justice at the European Commission and was entitled Qualetra (Quality in Legal Translation).

Since then, I have worked for the Care Quality Commission as both a civil and criminal enforcement litigator and the Electoral Commission as an advisory lawyer.

I have taught law and law-related skills for various other institutions such as the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives, City University and the School of Oriental and African Studies.

As a former OU law student, I was keen to return to the OU to share whatever knowledge and expertise I can in relation to this fascinating subject. What I like about teaching at the OU is the diversity of its students and the support it provides for both its students and tutors.
