Emily Tanner

I have worked in the Law Faculty for the Open University since 2010.  I currently teach W302 (Land Law Equity & Trusts) and before that taught on W301, its predecessor.  From February 2024 I will also be teaching the on the new W322 (Property and Private Client Law) which I have helped to create.

I regularly get involved with the Open Justice Clinic and am currently completing my Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy.  I also teach Real Estate on the LPC for the University of Law and the CLC Licensed Conveyancers Course for another online provider for which I am also a Qualified Assessor.

Prior to teaching I was a Property Solicitor in Private Practice for several years, however over time I began to realise that I enjoyed the mentoring and progression of my staff and colleagues more, so made the switch to working for the Open University and haven’t looked back.

Land law, Equity and Trusts can be seen as very hard, dry subject areas to understand and get to grips with, I should know as I really struggled with them at undergraduate level on my degree.  I really enjoy empowering students, reassuring them they know more than they think by making the subject more understandable and relatable.
