Elizabeth Brown

Hello there, I teach in the Law Department at the OU, specifically the W340 module, which is Law, Society and Culture. I began my academic teaching career at Strathclyde University, Glasgow, teaching for the Sociology Department, authoring modules broadly related to Women and Girls’ Human Rights issues, and more specifically inter-personal violence.

Having studied and taught Politics, Sociology and Law at Post-Graduate level the W340 module appealed to me primarily because it brings together all elements of my academic knowledge within one module. I am particularly fascinated by the interactions between societal cultures and legal frameworks and how these are often in contention in contemporary human, lived experience.

I applied to the OU specifically to teach on this module and have thoroughly enjoyed participating in the teaching of this module, it is very progressive; grappling with timely debates, affording students the opportunity to engage with the current issues of the day!

I have enjoyed the inclusive, and warm environment fostered at the OU, for students and teaching staff alike.
