Good academic practice refers to the process of completing your academic work independently, honestly and in an appropriate academic style, using good referencing and acknowledging all of your sources. Achieving good academic practice involves:

  • developing your own independent evaluation of academic issues
  • drawing upon research from academics in your field of study
  • discussing and evaluating existing concepts and theories
  • demonstrating your understanding of the key literature
  • developing your own arguments

In this online event, we will touch upon all these elements, as well as considering some of the key study skills that you will need to master to progress successfully in your studies.

Through a number of half hour live sessions led by colleagues and fellow students, we will cover the following topics (and more!):

  • Managing your time, reading and notetaking, getting involved digitally
  • What does academic integrity mean?
  • Encouraging collaboration and avoiding collusion – getting the most from peer support
  • The importance of writing in your own word
  • Referencing and common knowledge

Between 12 and 1pm there is a chance to get involved in a live discussion on Adobe connect, the OU’s tutorial platform where you can talk to other students and tutors.

The event will be relevant to all students, regardless of the subject or level you’re studying at. As always with Student Hub Live, you can attend for the whole event or drop in and out as you wish.

For the full programme and trailer, and to watch and interact on the day, please visit  SHL Website.

Student Hub Live is a popular place for OU students to discuss their studies with university staff and to share experiences and advice.

So if you can, please share details of the event with students. If you are a student yourself or if you’d like to use a future event to communicate with students, come and have a look!

The chat room will be open from 9.30am, and during the live event you can send your tweets to @StudentHubLive (#StudentHubLive18), email us, complete the online voting tools and take part in the online discussions.
