The OU in Wales event: Slaying the trolls: Social media use and abuse

Are you fascinated by social media? Are you interested in the impact it has on society? Do you want to find out more about how to tackle trolls? Platforms like Twitter and Facebook allow us to communicate with our friends, families, colleagues and strangers 24/7 but they are not without their problems. Abusive messages and posts can have devastating effects, particularly on young and vulnerable people.

Join us on 5 November for this event exploring the use of social media and its consequences. Drawing on cutting-edge research carried out by Dr Kim Barker from the University of Stirling and Dr Olga Jurasz from The Open University, the event will focus on two important issues: social media use and student wellbeing; and social media and online violence against women. As well as learning about this new research, audience members will also participate in two panel discussions with academics, policymakers and members of third sector organisations.
